Rodents, Rats and Mice can be found in a host of different environments. The place that you do not want to find them is in you home.
There are many different rodent species in Australia both Native and introduced, but there are only 3 commensal species which are the house mouse, Norway rat and roof rat. Commensal means living at mans expense without contributing anything beneficial to the relationship.
What are Rats
Rats are various medium-sized, long-tailed rodents of the superfamily Muroidea. “True rats” are members of the genus Rattus, the most important of which to humans are the black rat, Rattus rattus, and the brown rat, Rattus norvegicus. Many members of other rodent genera and families are also referred to as rats, and share many characteristics with true rats. For more information on Rats click here >
What are Mice
A mouse is a small mammal belonging to the order of rodents, characteristically having a pointed snout, small rounded ears, a body-length scaly tail and a high breeding rate. Mice are usually much smaller than a rat usually around 7.5cm to 10cm and they have a smaller tail. Their colourings and markings can include light grey, white, light brown and black.
